Sabado Gigante?

Sabado Gigante (Spanish for Giant Saturday) is a long-running Latino variety television show that appears weekly on one of the Spanish-language television stations in my area.

It’s hosted by a guy named Don Francisco (coolest name on television) and it looks like it would be a lot of fun to watch if I had any idea what is going on. It seems like a lot of cheesey TV shows that used to air on Saturdays in Arkansas on Channel 16. There’d be a slew of them – mostly harmless, mindless, all in a row: She’s The Sheriff, Small Wonder, Out of This World, etc.

Between Channel 16 and whatever sequel to Walking Tall or Police Academy that TBS was showing that day, I could go through an entire Saturday entertained without having to form a coherent thought.

But a Giant Saturday is the opposite of what I experienced today – a day that saw me wake up by 8 a.m., return to bed by 11 a.m., get up again at 6 p.m. and finally leave the house for the first time around 7:30 p.m. – well after the sun had set.

I don’t mind a Saturday spent pursuing less-than-serious activities. I certainly considered a few of them myself – a drive to a nearby casino for some blackjack and a trashy buffet, a shopping trip to search for some patio furniture in Nov. (which I’ve since been told was impossible to find), even an afternoon attempt at hacking away at my National Novel Writing Month manuscript (stuck at 202 words out of 50,000 with the month half over). I even tried catching up on a few chores, even plotted putting away all my Halloween decorations.

But I couldn’t bring myself to do any of it. I just felt that all-too-familiar, uncomfortable-in-your-own-skin funkiness (and not the George Clinton/Bootsy Collins type of funkiness either). I couldn’t sit anywhere in any position for more than 30 minutes without just feeling unsettled.

I honestly think I’d rather feel just about anything than that dry, displaced, listless feeling.

I hope it will be gone when I get up tomorrow.

Sorry this post isn’t more upbeat. I do have a good update with plenty of pictures of my beautiful new niece. But they’re on the laptop at work. That update is coming, I promise.

But this is just how I feel tonight and I thought I should document it. For the record, there is country music playing on my iPod tonight. That’s how bad it got. :|
