I think I need a new bed.
Maybe it’s because eight hours of sleep in mine feels like 12 rounds with an angry welterweight.
But here’s the rub. I hate, absolutely hate, making big purchases like this. It’s usually when my anxiety kicks into overdrive. I don’t know if it’s parting with the money, fear of overpaying … or just difficulty making a decision between hundreds and thousands of options.
I know money is a factor… there’s this mythical $95-100 barrier for me. I can spend hundreds of dollars on lots of small trivial things, but letting a big chunk go at once is really difficult. Maybe that’s a good thing, I don’t know.
I was talking to my friend Paul about this the other day. I saw a Roomba on sale at Big Lots! for $95 the other day. Now I truly hate to vacuum. But at the same time, can I justify purchasing a robot to do it for me? Am I embracing technology or rewarding my own laziness? They also make a Scooba for cleaning tile floors. And they even have a device for ironing clothes… produced by the a company with the very uncomfortable name Fagor. The only alternative is the Dressman, manufactured by Siemens, so, oh well.
But I digress.
I need a new mattress and box spring, so I don’t wake up looking like Quasimodo every morning.
Unfortunately, every bed I’ve ever owned in my 31 years of life has been purchased by someone else, so if anybody has any good ideas of where to start looking, I’m all ears.
If you are going to spend a big amount…you might as well go all out. Get a TempaPedic.

My friend Sandy just bought several new beds (for her bed and a guest room bed) at a mattress compnay in Dallas. it seems they manufacture beds for several brands and they sell at wholesale prices. If you want to take a look – I can find out where the place is.
