Cold Jam

While surfing around for some videos to find some new songs for the band, I came across this one.

This is Pearl Jam, performing “Dissident” from the “Vs.” album live in 26 degree weather in Wisconsin during their 2000 world tour. Note the ice breath. The guys are obviously cold but are really pouring it on out there… I can’t believe McCready can solo all the way through like that. We played an really cold November morning gig for a triathlon in Keller a few years ago, so trust me when I say that it’s not easy. Nothing wakes you up like an ice-cold harmonica on your lips.

This reminded me just how much I enjoyed Pearl Jam. I saw them in concert back around 92 or 93 and it was a genesis-moment for me in my passion for music. And I can thank my brother Graham for that… he got invited to go with his friend Paul, but Mom wouldn’t let him go unless I was along for the ride. Even for a Barton Colliseum show, it was pretty fantastic. And they’re still one of my first choices when I want to rock out in my truck.

  1. That is nothing! I once played all 4 movements of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony in -15ºF on a mountain in Siberia. Oh wait . . . maybe that was just a dream.

    Pearl Jam rocks!
